Stage 6: BAD LEONFELDEN - VYŠŠÍ BROD/HOHENFURTH

Route: 18 km, 280 m elevation gain

From the parish church, we head towards the main square, passing the town hall, cross the pedestrian crossing, then turn right and follow the main square along to Bräuhausgasse. From there, the path leads towards Salzstraße, and we cross the Böhmerwald federal road. After crossing the access road to the Hotel Falkensteiner, we continue along the Danube-Moldau Trail towards Rading (gravel hiking trail no. 12).

We pass the Franz Stelzhamer monument, followed by the ‘European Watershed’ and a tank bump commemorating the Iron Curtain.

At the Gasthaus zur Schwedenschanze, we continue along the Danube-Moldau Trail to the national border. At the last farmhouse, the route continues along gravel, forest and meadow paths, past the historic Schwedenschanze.

After the national border, an information board commemorates “Reifmas”, formerly the southernmost village in Bohemia, which was blown up after the Second World War. We walk along a 1.5 km stretch of fence on both sides until we reach a crossroads.

There, we turn slightly left and follow the E10 signpost to Studanky. After the final climb, we turn right in Studanky and follow the side road to the main road towards the village centre.

Shortly after a chapel, we turn left onto the E10 hiking trail to the Dürnau junction. We stay on the path and, after 450 m, turn right towards Vyssi Brod. We follow the tarmac road until we reach the ‘Abtweg’ and the ‘St. Wolfgang Waterfalls’ on the left.

We follow the yellow-white-yellow markings to Vyšší Brod Monastery.
