Loving oneself

Station 12 Neußerling

Treat oneself. I do not say to do this always, or even to do this often. But I do say to do this every now and then - Saint Bernard of Clairvaux

Meditation text for the journey

to Gramastetten

What do I do to take care of my own body and soul?

How can I treat myself with care?

How frequently do I reflect and do I pray?

I am aware of my whole body and mentally I take a journey from the bottom of my feet to the top of my head. I try to feel all of my muscles and my organs. In doing so, I may notice that I'm barely aware of some parts of my body. My body functions naturally in a miraculous way. My digestion, my metabolism, my heartbeat, all function automatically without my intervention. I am breathing. I am filled with appreciation and wonder."

The "Novosedlo" (Bohemian), a new settlement, gave its name to the town of Neußerling. The settlement was first mentioned in documents as early as the 12th century. German and Slavic colonists ventured into new areas of cleared land. Today, the town belongs to the municipality of Herzogsdorf. Two large monasteries meet in Herzogsdorf and Neußerling. While the Augustinian Canons of St. Florian are responsible for Herzogsdorf, Neußerling is a branch church of the Wilhering parish of Gramastetten. It was not until after the Second World War that a church in the style of a historicist hall building was erected in Neußerling. Until then, Holy Mass had been celebrated in somewhat cramped conditions in the local primary school. It is therefore not surprising that the headmaster of the primary school was the driving force behind the new building. With homemade bricks and a great deal of personal effort on the part of the parishioners, the work, including the tower, was completed. The church furnishings were acquired gradually. The organ used to be in Vorderweißenbach, and the high altar was originally made by a local carpenter for a church in Treffling. The stained glass windows, designed by a Viennese artist, date from 1996. DThe "Immaculate Heart of Mary" watches over the faithful. There is a special museum in the Luagschmiede, which presents the development of a craft business from a smithy in the 16th century to a tractor workshop in the 20th century. Visits to the forge, which was decommissioned in 1983, are possible by appointment. Neußerling is located at an altitude of 700 metres in the middle of the Mühlviertel Nature Park. A tranquil atmosphere hangs in the air here.
